ChitChat x Barbra Banda (BB11) Share More Campaign

About the Campaign

  • ChitChat launches its first ever brand campaign.
  • The campaign introduces ChitChat, a messaging app that comes with a USD Virtual Debit Card for use on ecommerce enabled sites, as well as the ability to send money to banks, mobile wallets and cash agents in 13 different countries around the world.
  • The "Share More" campaign features football phenomenon Barbra Banda in a powerful narrative about resilience and sharing your authentic self with the rest of the world.
  • The narrative draws from Banda’s upbringing in Zambia to become Africa’s all-time top-scorer at the Olympics and more recently, the BBC’s Women’s Footballer of the Year, as well as the CAF Female Footballer of the Year.

ChitChat’s mission is to develop secure messaging and instant payment systems for Africa - two protocols whose continued ownership is vital in both times of war and peace. ChitChat wants to become the WeChat of Africa - an app that helps people stay in touch together, as well as move money easily. ChitChat’s "Share More" campaign brings this vision to screen through the story of Barbra Banda’s improbable story of overcoming all else become a global football sensation (#stargirl).

The campaign was further inspired by "Zambia Ku Chalo" (Zambia to the world). This rallying cry comes at a moment when Zambia is rewriting narratives across every sector - from Barbra Banda’s record-breaking achievements in football to Namwali Serpell’s "The Old Drift" capturing science fiction’s highest honour, from "Supa Team 4" bringing Lusaka’s streets to Netflix to Sampa The Great’s electrifying hip-hop reaching global audiences. Just as Banda transformed from a local player to an international sensation, ChitChat is changing how people connect and share more across borders. In her narration, Banda shares:

If they say Zambian women’s football isn’t ready for the world stage, lead your country to their second Olympics. When they try to limit you, respond with limitless ambition. When you share more of who you are, you show others how to be more of who they are.

"This campaign is about more than sending messages or money - it’s about sharing dreams, ambitions, and possibilities," says Perseus Mlambo, ChitChat CEO. "Barbra’s story shows that when you share more of yourself with the world, you create opportunities for others to do the same. Every message sent, every transaction made, is an opportunity to share more of who we are," says Perseus Mlambo. "Barbra embodies the spirit of Zambia Ku Chalo, of persevering through adversity and above all, of remaining truthful to who you are" continued Perseus Mlambo.
